Breathe Free


The Columbus Crossing Borders documentary film titled Breathe Free was directed by filmmaker Doug Swift.
This compelling film follows the creation and development of the Columbus Crossing Borders art exhibit intermixed with the courageous stories of refugees who are now living in the United States.

Breathe Free saw its theatre premiere in the summer of 2017 and it continues to inspire audiences of all ages.

Doug Swift

Doug Swift studied cinematography and English, earning graduate degrees in creative writing from the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars and the University of Iowa Writers Workshop. This is where he learned to edit stories with nuance and power, preparing him for work as a documentary filmmaker.

Among Doug Swift's other documentary films is Up River, about the Newark Think Tank on Poverty, Searching for Shawnee (The Daily Yonder), about the old coal mining town in Perry County, and What Matters: The Struggle for Racial Equality in Zanesville, Ohio (WOUB, 100 Days in Appalachia), about the activism of Summer 2020. He teaches in the Narrative Journalism program at Denison University.
